2781 Than Than Soe1, Moe Moe2, Naw Al Shar Phaw3, Nu Nu Win4 MORPHOLOGICAL, HISTOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS, PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS, ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES OF LEAVES OF MESOSPHAERUM SUAVEOLENS (L.) KUNTZE Mesosphaerum suaveolens (L.) Kuntze known as Taw Pin Sein or Nan Saw Pin, belonging to the family Lamiaceae. The specimens were collected from Chan Mya Tharzi Township, Mandalay Region, during September 2022 to April 2023. The phytochemical results showed the presence of steroids, glycosides, phenolic compounds, tannins, saponins, ?-amino acids, proteins, reducing sugars, carbohydrates and starch. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by using 2, 2-diphenyl-1 picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH) free radical scavenging method. The antioxidant activity of Mesosphaerum suaveolens (L.) Kuntze was IC50 = 7.87 mg/L. In antimicrobial activities, the different solvents chloroform, pet-ether, ethyl-acetates, ethanol, methanol and aqueous extracts of leaves were tested on five pathogenic microorganisms by using agar well diffusion methods. Among these extracts, activity was more effective on Candida albicans (32.2 mm inhibition zone) by the ethyl-acetates extract. The results of the studies indicated that the Mesosphaerum suaveolens (L.) Kuntze possesses phytoconstituents, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. 2782 Khin Myo Win1, Yin Yin Kyaw2, Nway Nway3 STUDY ON NUTRITIONAL, PHYTOCHEMICAL, ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES FROM THE LEAVES OF CHENOPODIUM ALBUM L. (MYU) Chenopodium album L. is known as Myu belong to Chenopodiaceae. The plant was collected from Htan taw village, Amarapura Township, Mandalay Region during March 2023. The Chenopodium album L. was annual erect herbs. The leaves of Chenopodium album L. contain nutritional values such as protein, fat, fiber, carbohydrates and organic matter. The leaves of Chenopodium album L. involve saponins, flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, carbohydrates, phenolic compounds etc. In antioxidant activity, the methanol extract was higher than ethanol and watery extract. The leaves of Chenopodium album L. has significantly antioxidant effects. Then, antimicrobial activities of the water extract of leaves of Chenopodium album L. showed that the highest inhibition zone (20mm) on Escherichia coli, Xanthomonas oryzae and Pseudomonas fluorescens. The extracts of Chenopodium album L. showed good antimicrobial activities against on test organisms. The aim of the study of Chenopodium album (L.) leaves is to know the nutritional contents, chemical constituents, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. It was suggested that the leaves of Chenopodium album L. should be eaten because it contains medicinal properties for human health. 2025
2783 Phyo Wai Khaing1, Nu Yin Aye2, Pyae Phyo Hlaing3 and Nan Nan Htwe4 ISOLATION, PARTIAL PURIFICATION, AND APPLICATION OF FUNGAL PROTEASES FROM BEAN CROP SOIL The present study is based on the characterization of 11 and 16 isolated fungi from the bean crop soil in the Vegetable and Fruit Research Development Centre (Hlegu Township) and Myaungtagar Village, respectively. In a total of 27 isolated fungi, 13 fungi showed a clear zone around the colony to determine the preliminary protease-producing fungi. Still, the two selected fungi (V2 and M16) were found to be the highest protease producers. The two selected fungi (V2 and M16) were found as the genus Penicillium sp. The two selected proteolytic fungi were purified using 50% ammonium sulfate precipitation and then dialysis to obtain a partially purified enzyme. When compared with standard molecular weight markers, the relative molecular weight of Penicillium sp. (16) was found to be approximately ? < 40kDa, but Penicillium sp. (2) was estimated to be 70kDa. The partial purification fold was 2.16% for Penicillium sp. (2), which will recover 13.05% by dialysis, but Penicillium sp. (16) had a fold of 2.05% which will recover 23.14% by dialysis. In the Lineweaver-Burk plot, the Km values of Penicillium sp. (2 and 16) were shown to be 1.04 g%. Vmax values were 102.04 mMmin-1 of Penicillium sp. (16) and 100.00 mMmin-1 of Penicillium sp. (2). In the removal of blood stain, Penicillium sp. (2 and 16) exhibited complete clearance of the removal of blood stain compared with the control. In the milk clotting test, two selected, partially purified proteases exhibited strong milk coagulation within about 30 minutes. In the degradation of gelatin using waste X-ray films, it was observed that 70 minutes for Penicillium sp. (16) and 120 minutes for Penicillium sp. (2) were required for complete degradation. 2025
2784 Tin Lae Win1, Kin Aye Aye San2, Cho Cho Thin3, Padauk Wah4 QUALITATIVE AND QUANTATIVE PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF LEAVES OF ARTOCARPUS LAMELLOSUS BLANCO AND ITS ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY The plant Artocarpus lamellosus Blanco is an unrecorded species in Myanmar, belong to the family Moreaceae. It was collected from University of Yangon Campus, Kamayut Township. The aim of the present study on qualitative and quantitative phytochemical screening of the Artocarpus lamellosus Blanco and its microbial activity. In preliminary phytochemical analysis, the three different extracts such as HCL, ethanol and water extracts of leaves were found alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, phenolic compounds, saponins, starch, reducing sugars, carbohydrates, proteins, tannins and ?-amino acid. In quantitative analysis, moisture content, acid-insoluble ash, water soluble ash. The extractive values with different solvents and ash values were also analyzed and recorded. The elemental analysis and the presence of the toxic elements of the leaves were analyzed by using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). According to the result, it was revealed that moisture content (7.62%), total ash (6.24%), acid insoluble ash (75. 06%) and water soluble ash (9.73%). According to the extractive value result, the phytoconstituents of Artocarpus lamellosus Blanco were the highest soluble in petroleum ether whereas the least soluble in water or methanol. The nutritional value of the leaves was analyzed. Antimicrobial activities of Artocarpus lamellosus Blanco were investigated with seven extracts of different solvents from the powdered leaves on eight test organisms by agar well diffusion assay. Among them, antimicrobial activity on pathogenic microorganism, Salmonella typhi and the weakly antifungal activity was found on Escherichia coli. 2025
2785 Yin Mon Aye1, Yee Yee Nwe2, Aye Chan Myat3 BOTANICAL AND PHYTOCHEMICAL STUDIES, NUTRITIONAL VALUE AND ANTIMICROBIAL PROPERTIES OF LEAVES OF OPERCULINA TURPETHUM (L.) SILVA. IN DAGON UNIVERSITY Operculina turpethum (L.) Silva. (Kyar-hin) belongs to the family Convolvulaceae. In this research work, the specimens were collected from Dagon University Campus, East Dagon Township, Yangon Region, during the flowering and fruiting periods from February to July, 2023. In this paper, the morphological characters of plant and microscopical characters of leaves were studied at the Department of Botany, Dagon University by using available literatures. In morphological study, the plant was veins, stem with 3-5 wings; leaves were ovate, pubescent; flower white; sepal persistent, carpel-2, axile placentation. The microscopical characters of leaves were conducted by free hand section method. In microscopical study paracytic type of stomata was found in both surface and non-glandular trichomes were present. The preliminary phytochemical test of powdered leaves was examined in Dagon University. Alkaloid, carbohydrate, glycoside, phenolic compound, reducing sugar, flavonoid, saponin and tannin were present. The nutritional value was examined by David Pearson and Kjeldaha method and antioxidant activitiy was also examined by DPPH Assay Method at the Small Scale Industry Departments in North Okkalapa Township. This powder was found to contain carbohydrates, fiber, fat, proteins, ash and moisture, and energy value 320.73 kcal. Elemental analysis of the powder was found the elements, such as Ca, K, Fe, Cu and Sr. The antimicrobial activities of three extracts of sample showed against on Agrobacterium spp., among them Butanol extract is most affected to the test organisms. 2025

TENUIS (BLUME) SCHNEIDT, MEVE & LIEDE The medicinal plant Vincetoxicum flexuosum var. tenuis (Blume) Schneidt, Meve & Liede (Ma Line-Twat) belongs to the family Apocynaceae. The specimens were collected from Yae Chan Pyin Village, Sittwe Area, during the flowering and fruiting period, from May to July, 2023. In this research, morphological characters, preliminary phytochemical tests, nutritional values, trace metal contents analysis and antimicrobial activity tests were carried out. In the morphological study, the plant was climber and milky sap present. The preliminary phytochemical tests revealed that the presence of alkaloid, glycoside, carbohydrate, reducing sugar, saponin and tannin were found; the ?-amino acid, starch, phenolic compound and flavonoid were absent. In a nutritional study, it was significantly found that 38.13 % of fibres in leaves. According to the Energy Dispersive X-Rays Fluorescence Spectrophotometer (EDXRF) analysis results, chlorine was found more than other elements in leaves. The antimicrobial activity was carried out by agar well diffusion method on six types of test microorganisms. Ethanol extract showed the significant activities on Bacillus subtilis and moderate against on all other test microorganisms. The watery and pet-ether extracts showed the negative results on all types of test microorganisms. 2025
2787 Aye Aye Naing1, Aye Myat Thuzar2, Seasar Wai3, Hla Theingi Lwin4 STUDY ON MORPHO-ANATOMICAL CHARACTERS, PHYTOCHEMICAL INVESTIGATION ON LEAVES OF SANTALUM ALBUM L. AND ITS ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES Santalum album L. is belonging to the family Santalaceae which is known as Nant-thar-phyu in Myanmar and Sandalwood in English. The samples were collected from Neibainda Hill in Pyay Township during June, 2023 and February, 2024. In this study, morphological and anatomical characters, preliminary phytochemical tests ,elemental analysis and antimicrobial activity of Santalum album L. were carried out. In morphological study, the plant is semiparasitic evergreen small tree with slender drooping branches. Leaves were simple and opposite. Flowers were complete, bisexual, regular, actinomorphic, perigynous. Perianth-segment provided with a tuft of hairs behind the stamens. Stamens 4, epipetalous, filaments long, anther dithecous, adnate, introrse. One carpel, axile placentation, one ovule, pendulous, style filiform, stigma tri-lobed, disc present, ovary half-inferior. Fruits globose drupe, seeds hard, globose or obovoid. In histological study, the epidermal cells were thin-walled parenchymatous cells and papillose formed in lower epidermis. The stomata were paracytic type and vascular bundles were collateral type and exarch. Druses-shaped calcium oxalate crystals were abundantly found in collenchyma and rarely found in parenchyma. In the preliminary phytochemical investigation, alkaloids, carbohydrates, flavonoids, glycosides, phenol, reducing sugars, saponins, starch and tannins were present and ? - amino acid was absent. In the antimicrobial test, ethyl acetate extract was showed the activity on all of six microorganisms. Among them, acetone extract was showed the best activity on Staphylococcus aureus. Ethyl acetate showed activity on all organisms. Watery extract was showed activity on only Candida albicans. From the research, the findings were significance and as an authentic information could be used to future research. 2025
2788 Thawng Lian Mung1 QUALITY OF UPPER EOCENE COAL SEAMS EXPOSED IN THE DATHWEKYAUK AREA, TAMU TOWNSHIP, SAGAING REGION* The research area is mainly composed of clastic sedimentary rocks and coal seams of Upper Eocene Pondaung and Yaw Formation. The total (6) representative coal samples collected from differences coal seams in the Nyaungpin stream section, near Minthami village, Tamu Township. Six coal samples were used to determine the quality or grade of coals. The coals of the study area constitutes macerals of Vitrinite group (76% to 91%), Liptinite group (0.4 % to 2.8%) and Inertinite group (8% to 17%) respectively. The vitrinite reflectance analysis was carried out on a MPV- Leitz microscope by means of reflected white light using oil immersion objective. The proximate analysis was carried out on the coal analysis instruments, Ollital, Model - JZLR – 9000B. The results of vitrinite reflectance value of coal seam are range from 0.56 and 0.64. The proximate results of coal seams are composed of moisture- 1 % - 9 %, volatile matter – 42% - 45%, Ash – 3% - 11%, fixed carbon – 42% - 51% , calorific value – 10989 - 13261 Btu/lb. Both the vitrinite reflectance values and proximate analysis values were indicate that the coal rank of coal seams fall into “Sub bituminous A and B” rank. The classification based on the German and American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) coal classification scheme. Subbituminous coals of the study area are economically important because those are used as fuel for electric power generation and industries. Coal samples were analyzed in laboratories at Yamaguchi Univeristy, Japan, Pengujan tek MIRA, Bandung, Indonesia and Georesources Mineral Analyis Laboratory, Yangon, Myanmar. 2025
2789 Ye Yint Aung1 BRACHIOPODA FROM TAUNGNYO FORMATION, MAWLAMYINE AREA, MON STATE* This paper reviews the brachiopod fossils from the Taungnyo Range, Mon State, Myanmar. I describe here, Late Devonian to Early Carboniferous brachiopods including; Punctospirifer scabricosta, Tropidoleptus carinatus, and Tetracamera subcuneata were found in the study area. According to the discovery, each species possesses different shell outline and surface morphological features. Fossil specimens are well-preserved in the mudstone and argillite (C1t2) unit of Taungnyo Formation. The fossil brachiopods are absence C1t1 and C1t3 units. Among them, all taxa are first described in Myanmar but previously named in the world. 2025
2790 Hnin Hnin Maung1, Myint Swe2 and Htet Akar3 PALEOECOLOGY OF HOLOCENE FORAMINIFERA SPECIES IN SMART ISLAND, MYEIK TOWNSHIP, TANINTHARYI REGION, MYANMAR The study area is located in Myeik City, the Tanintharyi Region of Myanmar. It is situated in the extreme south of the country on the coast of an island, the Andaman Sea. Myeik Archipelago lies off the far south coast of Myanmar. Samples from the Smart Island and Two-Face Island generally contained medium sand and fine sand, with minor silt, lime, and mica flakes. The (3) specimens are collected from Smart Island and Two-Face Island. All the dried residues were sieved into three fractions with mesh sizes of 30, 60, and 90. After sieving the samples, the dry samples were examined under a binocular microscope, and all the foraminifer specimens were found to be well preserved. The present study aims to focus on the distribution of foraminifer assemblages in the Andaman Sea, which is part of the complex geological setting. This result is mainly focused on the paleoecology of Holocene Foraminifers. The study areas reveal that (116) genera have been recorded belonging to (145) species. There are (36) Holocene index fossils that occurred in the study area. Textularia conica occurred in the area between 1000 and 3500 m of water depth, and Eponides sp., Lenticulia sp., and Textularia sp. arise in the deeper inner shelf to middle shelf. Bolivina sp and Bulimina pupoides are befallen in the outer shelf. Smart Island is the most populated and diverse area in the study area. According to this evidence, Smart Island is deeper than Two Face Island. Therefore, the western part of the study area is deeper than the eastern part of the study area. An attempt has been made to correlate the Bengal Basin fauna with the known Holocene fauna from the Atlantic and Pacific regions. This research has implications for the paleooceanography of Andman Sea. 2025
