Abstract
  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between organizational protective processes and teacher resilience at selected Basic Education High Schools in Mandalay. Mixed research methods were applied to collect the required data. The sample for quantitative study was selected through purposive sampling, which included 310 teachers from eight selected Basic Education High Schools in Mandalay. For the quantitative study, two instruments “Organizational Protective Factors Survey” developed by Tanum (2007) to assess the perceptions of teachers on organizational protective processes and “Personal Resilience Questionnaire” developed by Conner (1993) to evaluate the perceptions of teachers on their resilience, were mainly used. Moreover, interviews were conducted with 27 teachers from five selected Basic Education High Schools in Mandalay to obtain detailed information about organizational protective processes and teacher resilience. Data was computed by utilizing descriptive statistics and Pearson product- moment correlation analyses through SPSS software. According to the results of this study, organizational protective processes were positively and moderately correlated with teacher resilience (r=0.469, p<0.01). The qualitative data provided by interviews with teachers was consistent with the qualitative findings. Therefore, it can be concluded that when the levels of organizational protective processes increase, the levels of teacher resilience will also increase. Further research should be conducted in other townships, states and divisions of our country.
