Abstract

• This study examines the contributions of Myanmar’s key agricultural subsectors—crop production, livestock, fishery, and forestry—to the growth of Gross Domestic Product per Capita based on purchasing power parity (GDPPPP) over a 20-year period. Recognizing agriculture as a cornerstone of the national economy and a primary source of income and employment, the research aims to identify which subsectors play the most significant roles in driving economic growth and how they interact with GDP in both the short and long run. Using a quantitative approach and secondary data from credible sources such as the Central Statistical Organization, the analysis applies econometric techniques including the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test, Johansen cointegration, and Vector Autoregressive (VAR) and Vector Error Correction (VECM) models. The findings are expected to provide policymakers and stakeholders with valuable insights for designing targeted strategies, improving resource allocation, and fostering balanced, sustainable growth in Myanmar’s agricultural sector.
